My Bonsai Collection... haYA!

A bonsai is a miniature tree. The chinese and japanese perfected the art of growing these trees many generations ago. Most people don't realize that most varieties of bonsai are deciduous trees which are best left outside, even during the winter. There are some tropical bonsai (also called indoor bonsai) which can be kept indoors. Mine are all indoor bonsai.

Hawaiian Umbrella Bonsai (Shefflera Aboricola 'Luseane')

I love the air roots on this one. This is one of the easiest bonsai to care for. great for beginners and can do well in medium light.

The Owl

I was awakened this morning, a little before 6am, by a frightening commotion right next to me in bed. I jumped out of bed and turned on the light. What I saw was amazing. My cat Meenow with an Owl in her mouth! The Owl escaped her grasp and started flying around the room. It then perched itself on the door frame, where I was able to catch it with a towel. I realeased it and it flew away, seemingly unharmed. I took some photos with my phone.

Dart Frog Vivarium

I decided to rebuild my poison dart frog vivarium. I had a couple dart frogs a while ago, and they died due to my negligence. I vow to be a better frog god this time around.

Sechuan Button Anyone?

Can someone tell me where to get some of these?

The Sechuan Buttons is the flower of a plant originating from Africa and South America when the two continents where still connected. Now it is only found in specific areas of Africa. The name ‘Sechuan Button’ is chosen as the flower is also found in Sechuan, China.

Debunking myths with silence?

I thought this was an interesting article. Raised some questions, but no real answers:

What kind of dog do I have?

Odette was at work today, and I was spending some time detailing the kitchen when Steve from across the street knocked on my door. I see him walking his dog all the time, so it didn't surprise me that he came with one. He said: "Hi! I have something for you." I looked at his hands and then around a bit. "Really? What?", I asked. "This dog!", he answered with a grin.

Long story short, his adult daughter found the dog and was unable to find the owner. She already has her hands full with her own dog, so she was looking for someone to take it. "Keep it for a couple days, see if you like him... we call him Max," Steve told me. So I took Max!
