The Arabic word Haya can be translated as meaning modesty.
This word covers a number of concepts; it may also mean self-respect, bashfulness, honor, dignity, not boastful, lack of arrogance and humility.
Some scholars explain that there are 2 types of Haya:
- The good type which is to not do or commit a thing which is forbidden by God and His messengers(as) described in the religious books
- The bad type is to abstain from doing what God commanded you to do.
