Respect is always the sought after goal......fear is not an option that should be included in endeavor..it goes hand in hand with someone lying to you. Fear breeds lies. If someone is lying to you, they do not respect you if they do not respect you how can they love you?

I do believe that respect is something that is earned, you have to give it to recieve it. Any one can fear somone, but to have respect means that you worked for it. Fear does not mean status, respect means status with or without monitary status.

Fear breeds betrayal perfect example: Julius Ceasar and the Roman senators..after they lost respect for him ( you know the whole cleopatra thing and still being married to calpurnia pisonis ) they feared he would become what rome never had a king so they killed him....

Respect brings people closer to you, increases feelings of love, positive world of mouth, gains real friendships and you have to positively contribute to the society around you in order to gain it ...It is not like an aspirin pill that people swallow and after that start to respect someone ...Fear is different ... It creates negative feelings or even hate, people want to go away from you or been hidden, you start having around only people who like to flatter or to applause you, you dont listen opposite opinions etc. ... People respect with freedom but fear losing their freedom ...

Respect and fear do not go hand in hand. People will go out of thier way to destroy something that they are afriad of because there is no leniency. People can overcome fear and if the "respect" was from fear then what? Not so powerful anymore, you'll have a revolt on your hands. And on the other side of the same coin you could lose the people's respect, and that's far more worse than someone not being afriad of you anymore. If your looking for advice: Don't be an ass just because of your last name. Then you won't have anything to worry about.

The way I see it, respect can be earned by fear, accomplishment, personality, or actions. Most people want respect, the choice is more about how you want to obtain it. I think respect from fear is usually a false respect.
