"MY SAGGY SWAGGA!"--by blackthelion

MY SAGGY SWAGGA

"A FAD THAT WONT PLAY OUT?"

Baggyjeans
I had a conversation with my community group"OVERGROUND NATION"{Who sag so much they might as well take off their pants and wear their boxers} and we begin to discuss this whole saggy jeans trend. (please read on)

In the early eighties is when I first saw the launch of this trend that kind of came along with the gangsta rap genre. When we had first saw people wearing this style we use to laugh at it! as it began to grow and more and more we saw people wearing it, we got used to seeing it. Pants at that time were really only cut and stitched in one way back then, they were narrow and straight. Because of this cut and stitch when a person would sag it made them look bow legged.{Looking bow legged was appealing to the girls at that time}.Parents and teachers were appauled! Hip-Hop was always having that effect on adults at that time.Lets also let it be noted that Rock stars and Plumbers were also pioneers of this butt-out look.

It was once said that the look was of prison origin and it was a statement that said you were willing to play butt darts! That's what I heard about it at the time and for that reason I was never into the look! I n Hip-Hop the streets changed the meaning of the look and the looked symbolized that you were a cool guy who was willing to let your nuts hang! or translation; you were a person with the balls to get respect on the streets. It was also noted that many prisoners said the look was a result of inmates not being allowed to wear belts even if their pants were too big for them. They may use the belt as a weapon or a way to commit suicide. Whatever the reason for wearing this look, it appears to be a trend that has staying power. It's 2008 and this style has law makers trying to pass laws to bring this look to it's end!{Talk about over staying your welcome}!They are trying to find a way to make money off of it by attaching fines to it.The wealthy will always search the poor for ways to get more money, and make political points with the people who hate anything that has any association to Hip- Hop music. With all the crime going on in this country,NYPD and other's figure it's more important to sit around analyzing rap music content and stopping people for wearing saggy jeans.

I never cared much for the look myself or it's meanings. I also never cared much that other people wore their pants sagging! I was more offended by people wearing tight Jordache,Calvin Kliens,Wranglers and other nut cutters! There were times when I would sag and people around me thought I was trying to be cool. The truth of the matter was that my pants were baggy because Moma bought them too big for me and insisted that I wore them.I wonder will they give you a fine for that too? Hey Officer, some people are just skinny! I feel that this style has overserved it's purpose but I dont think that law makers should spend their day and tax payer money on trying to regulate such trivial things. But then again, that is what's wrong with our officials.

Black...this is quite interesting. I've always believed in self expression. I must honestly say though,  I'm not against a litle sagging but when the jeans are falling off and someone can barely walk and/or walk with their hands on their jeans constantly pulling it up or holding it up seems a little uncomfortable to me. When the jeans are too tight, it's just as perplexing to me. OUCH!  What I disagree with, is why the government is trying to stop this when this is a free country. As Americans we are proud to sing "Land of the free"...so why is it soo ironic? There are much more important issues to take care of...yes, let's start by finding ways to lower crime.
