Which are we really after? What is our end goal?
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
"I Have a Dream" Martin Luther King Jr.
By no means do I claim to be an expert on Dr. King or that I knew him on a personnal level. Because he was called home before I was placed on this earth. But I do belive from everything I've heard, read and seen is that the snipet I pulled out of his speech above not only include his own children but all people in this country and world. His vision, as I believe it, was to live in a color blind world. A world that has a level I bring this up to point out something I see wrong in our community today.
I read an article today that talked about this White kid being the valedictorian at Morehouse college, ironically the same college Dr. King graduated from. A lot of the alumni and a very select few of the students are upset about this. They don't feel its a good thing that a white kid is graduating number one from a Historical Black College. My question is what is there to be mad about. This was not some plan by "the man" to make blacks fell inferior. This was just a smart kid who picked Morehouse because a) that was the type of environment he grew up in and b) they offfered him the best educational experience for what he wanted to study, African-American studies.
Bringing up these two things, leads me back to the title, Equality or Black power?
