I wrote this about a year ago after finding out that someone very close to me was raped. In order to clear my mind and channel my emotions I put pen to paper and this is what came out.
From the day you were born you were told you would be protected. You were the apple of our eye. A princess , one that deserves nothing but love and affection
As Men we are taught to be there for you, be a protector. When Dad is away we become the man of the house. Look after you mother we're told. If we have sisters, young or old, watch after you sister. Don't let anyone hurt them. That is what we are taught and that is that is how is should be.
But along the way that message has been lost. Some of us have forgot or were not taught this message. We believe that you belong to us. That you were put here for our pleasure and that we don't need your permission to decide when.
So we break your trust. We have stolen an innocence that can never be returned. No matter what we do or what we say. Life will never be the same. And for that we apologize.
We are sorry for breaking that trust. We are sorry for hurting you. We are sorry for forgetting that you are a gift and a blessing from GOD.
So today we renew our vow to you. Today we stand-up and be the Men you were told about. Ones that Love, Honor, Cherish, and Respect everything little thing about you. We will treat you like the Queens you are.
We know we can't erase what has happen. But we can try to rebuild that trust. We can help you replace that hurt with Love. We know Rome wasn't built in a day. We know healing is a process. And we pledge to be there with you and for you every step of the way.
