History of Violence - Belly (aka Rebellyus)

Belly (aka Rebellyus), the Palestinian-born rapper who spent his first seven years living in war-torn areas of the Middle East, goes deep for his and all people in his new track and video for "History of Violence." The song is a powerful and vivid look at the hypocrisy and devastation of the war in Iraq and other Middle Eastern territories. Shot in the 'hoods of Ottawa's south side and West Montreal, "History of Violence" drew hip-hop heads from cultures around the world to participate, including Palestinians, Lebanese, Iraqis, Ghanaians, Haitians, Jamaicans, Somalis, Canadians, French Canadians and Americans, some bringing flags from their mother countries.

This really highlights the anemic disposition of public discourse in the U.S.  Very few people are saying things like this in public spaces.  Very refreshing.  Hip Hop is a rapidly proliferating tool for the reclamation of language and the destruction of doublespeak.

I just posted this link on Digg...

Good stuff.

seeing lots of political/international relations inspired hip hop these days, but how are their sales? how often are these tracks being played on the radio? the more pay time, the greater your reach and larger your audience. kanye challenged the labels, establishment and put "Jesus Walks" on Billboards number three spot. surprised the Jesus out of me. looking forward to seeing more artists like Rebellyus gain traction --- hip hop has for a long time now offered a range of voices and story telling. now more than ever, thanks to the Internet, such artists can be discovered without the mafia support of major labels --- shoob, reach out to Rebellyus and get em' on Nuzizo! great find yo.
