Mars as second moon in the sky august 27? ROFLMAO!!!

"On August 27th … Mars will look as large as the full moon."

"Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30am."

"NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN."

S T O P ! ! !

I am guessing most of you have either heard about this "spectacular event" or received it in your email.

Pure BULLSHIT!

I am sorry, but come on? Is like what the hell these people going to come up with next. Ok...  yeah yeah they got part of the truth almost right. We talking August 27th 2003, not 2007. The information is so outdated.

Check this link for the real event! Yes it may have been spectacular, but trust me, you would've need a damn good telescope for it to be the size of a fullmoon!...

http://www.space.com/spacewatch/mars_preview_021108.html

Very similar data huh... but note the date!

and I quote:

"At the close approach, the Red Planet will be brighter than Jupiter and all the stars in the night sky, outshone only by Venus and the Moon."

How many of us know what "star" is Venus anyway or Jupiter for that matter?!!!

Here is some fact according to NASA...

"Earth and Mars converged for a close encounter in 2005 on October 30th at 0319 Universal Time. Distance: 69 million kilometers. To the unaided eye, Mars will look like a bright red star, a pinprick of light, certainly not as wide as the full Moon."

Disappointed? Don't be!

"If Mars did come close enough to rival the Moon, its gravity would alter Earth's orbit and raise terrible tides."

I'm glad someone on this site, decided to check for themselves to see if this was true :)

The first time I saw the post regarding this "event" on Nuzizo, I thought it would be very odd for Mars to appear as big as the moon in the sky because of it's close proximity, so I did a bit of searching, courtesy of Google, and I found out like you that it was all BS!

BTW, a more fantastic event took place last night, which was the Lunar Eclipse. Did anyone see it?

I set my alarm for 3 am, and me and my dog went for a nice stroll. It was our first lunar eclipse :-)

Awww... thas sweet! I have had several views in my life. My sister and I used to sit outside with her heads stuck in the air. Lol! We hadterrible neck pain, but we loved every minute of it. Here in the Caribbean, we only would've had a brief view just a few minutes before the sun rose Frown. There's going to be another lunar eclipse on the 21st of Feb 2008. Check the link and see....
