FIG TREE

So I bought a fig tree, along with a lemon tree and grape vine hoping to eat some fruit very soon. So i got the fig tree because it's supposedly easy to grow and keep in a pot...However...how do I eat the figs? Has anyone eaten figs fresh and what the hell do you do with them...I have some gourmet recipes i found in a french magazine, but does anyone have easy ones?
And another thing...my cilantro's not doing so well here...when is it best to cut them? I don't know if gardening is for me, but I'll try!

I just had a fresh fig for the first time the other day.  It was pretty good, kind of pulpy, not as sweet as when dried.

I had some cilantro going a few years ago (love fresh cilantro) but it had trouble even standing up, very wilty.

Dear Virginie,

I have a fig tree in my garden and figs are my favorite fruit in summer.
I remember when young the anticipation for them to become ripe in August!

But dear you can't expect a fig tree to grow in a pot and produce figs!
You'll have to plant it in a garden and wait a few years.
Anyway you just peel them off and eat them fresh but they have to be ripe and juicy.

By the way Virginie

A fig tree is a big tree so ....forget the pot Smile
Same goes for the lemon tree!

Oh NO!!!! I specifically asked these poor people at the nursery if any fruit tree would be able to remain in a pot. They told me it would eventually need a bigger pot, but that it could stay in there...hmm...my fig tree has some little green figs growing on it, won't they ripe and become delicious? I guess not huh? They got me...I was fooled and mislead...I feel so..so ..taken advantage of! The lemon tree too!!!?? Well, I still have my grape vine...right? I'm not giving up...I'll let you know in a year how my potted fig tree is doing...Thanks for the info, it's absolutely devastating and depressing...Cry

Yeah, well they're not turning out as great as I thought, or they're just taking a while. My fig tree is hibernating while my lemon tree has decided to grow flowers! I think we'll wait and see for spring to get here. I'm so mad because I have all these neighbors of mine with awesome trees with delicious pamplemousses (grapefruit!) that are making the tree droop it's so full of fruit. They have way too much and they're not eating them. I actually have to go at night and sneak a steal. They're yummy! We did get to eat a couple of figs from our fig tree a few months ago when it wasn't so cold...I don't know. Our grape vine is not doing well either. But you know what is doing well? My parsley, cilantro and lemongrass. Yum yum lemongrass, great for curries! We're planning on starting tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce...we're not giving up yet!
