THE MAYOR OF NUZIZO

I have been hearing a lot of rumblings about the future Mayor of Nuzizo. In keeping in line with the purpose and themes of Nuzizo City, I recommend that we hold elections for the first ever Nuzizo Mayor.  Candidates must have a minimum of Diamond Status to run for office.  Each candidate must submit a blog outlining what he or she would do, if elected, to make Nuzizo City a better place to live!!!  Elections would be held at the end of September.  Member votes would be weighted to reflect their rep points and their involvement in Nuzizo City.
Thanks!
Idan

Idan,

What do you think a Mayor's responsibilities should be?

I would imagine that this is something that the candidates would address in their platform.  Everyone would have a different perspectove on their responsibilities while in office and how they would make Nuzizo City a better place

We have a lot of Gold members who have been active for a very long time, I don't think they should be excluded.

No disrespect sir but I don't think that's a good idea at all!

Why should we import all the circumstances running through the outer world into this new type of world? Is it not the governments -of any scale- in the outer world that cause all the distances between people?

I believe this would contradict to the idea of 'One World, One City'. I can imagine this putting governments in the city going on like this: then when neighbourhoods grow in population, they will want their own governments, mayors, halls, parliaments, etc. And then they will consider territories for themselves. i mean what is the point of being a government without having a territory. Then they will think of the need to protecting or expanding their territories, that demands security, in terms of interior and exterior, this would mean making up army and police forces! Once someone might come up with Liberated Police Department is hiring forces: commanders to be of Platinum Rank, Officers of Gold, and Detectives of at least Silver Rank! Same might come up with the Army! And an army needs a war to survive! And then intelligence services! Neighbourhoods are inviting hackers for themselves and ... History being repeated YUCK!

I know I have been exaggerating but to me the idea of having a mayor for Nuzizo sounds much close to the above story! I believe since this is a whole new world, it needs it's own circcumstances, and these circumstances have to be developed in an organic way and in line with the growth of the city and development and evaluation of it's requirements.

Hah!  Great point Hossein.

Democracy is only a form of government.  What new system, that takes into account the reach and flatness of the internet, could we create?

Do you need one definite "leader" in order to create a government?

Interesting...

Hossein,  I tend to think a vote for a government is a vote for giving up responsibility for your own life and handing over power to another. I actually don't vote in the real world on account of this. ONE WORLD, ONE CITY!  We seem to be doing fine right now without any gov't and we do have admins who are quick to respond to the needs of the city including attending to flagged content. There may come a time when they need assistance and I'm sure there would be volunteers to do so.

Gin, you said, "I tend to think a vote for a government is a vote for giving up responsibility for your own life and handing over power to another."

Do you think government is a form of collective abdication of our own self sovereignty?

I'm reminded of the power of the ant colony; how millions of individual actions have an incredible, collective effect.  Individual harmony contributes to the total energy of a system.

The more energized one citizen is, the more energized the city is.  The more energized a city is, the more potential there is for a citizen to realize his/her greatness (and the cycle continues...)

What do you think?

It seems to me Darren that the vast majority feel victimized by the people they vote for.  Also, consider for a moment if everyone refused to vote in the next election, you'd then see which party has rigged the voting and then the illusion would come crumbling down. Gov't is absolutely an abdication of our own self sovereignty.  We are perfectly aware that the 'looks' of a candidate and how they appear on television are more important that what they bring with them in terms of statemanship, We're also aware that people are hired to give them the words to manipulate us with.  Democracy is an illusion. It's a bit laughable that we can make any kind of informed decision once every 4-5 years with by voting for someone who travels in rarified circles with agendas quite unlike our own.

Politics for the most part is a game played by high level players who are not interested in the welfare of the citizens unless there is a favourable outcome for themselves. Why pay them to continue?

I am responsible for all that is in my life, I open the door, and I slam it shut. I slam the door on being complicit in the government illusion.

Well said Gin.

That's an interesting thought--not voting so that the machine behind the curtain is exposed.   In a sense, democracy is the smoke screen for a control system.  Political power is condensed in the hands of a few, the many validate this with a "vote."

Our current systems rely on the character, wisdom, and integrity of their representatives.  These qualities seem to be unexpressed in most of our "leaders."  Is this because these qualities are dormant in the People?

Will we look back one day on democracy the same way we do monarchy today?

Wow!  I really enjoyed reading this conversation and seeing it evolve.    I wish last night's debate was as exciting.
I dig Hossein's point about not bringing old systems into the new system of Nuzizo.  Because It seems that the whole point of Nuzizo is to be a new way.
And Darren's thoughts about "Democracy being only a form of government." And asking, "What new system, that takes into account the reach and flatness of the internet, could we create? " had me thinking all day.
Our country has eagerly advanced Capitalism, and evolved it technologically, as fast as we can.  However, we refuse to develop our democracy with that same technology.  Instead, we seem to take pride and comfort in how little our system of democracy has evolved  since our founding fathers designed it.
I believe they built so many government buildings out of granite and marble in DC to make citizens feel as if the building has been there for hundreds of year and will be there hundreds more.
Darren and Gin have really stirred some thoughts--"not voting so the machine behind the curtain is exposed."  " In a sense, democracy is the smoke screen for a control system."  "Political power is condensed in the hands of a few, the many validate this with a "vote."
Now I feel like I do not want to validate this system anymore.  I am going to vote to evolve it, by not voting at all.
When I read this, I had an image of those kid car rides at Disney World.  When I was young, I really thought I was steering that car.  Now when I see it as an adult, I notice the large metal track holding the car to it's path only allowed me to steer an inch in either direction.  The Steering Wheel didn't really control the steering.  It was more of a decoration to entertain us.
