The best way to learn arabic is to just be around people who do while they are speaking it. I can teach you some phrases, but I have to tell you they will be Egyptian arabic phrases Laughing

michel wrote on Aug 08, 06:51 PM

How do you pronounce the "3" in those words? (Sa3eed) DO you pronounce it "three"??

wanderluv

wanderluv wrote on Aug 08, 07:02 PM

I think it's that  A sound made way in the back of the throat.   Right Mona?

masriyaATL

masriyaATL wrote on Aug 08, 07:10 PM

No, the "3" is representative of an arabic letter "aaan", and Gloria, you're right...this phonetic letter (arabic is a phonetic language) makes its sound from the back of the throat instead of using your tongue to pronounce it.

SoulfulEyz

SoulfulEyz wrote on Aug 09, 07:53 PM

habibti Do I pronounce the 7 as haaaa... from the back of the throat too?  Like 7anoun...haanoun?  Is  "Sa3eed"  pronounced as saheed (deep)? Undecided

masriyaATL

masriyaATL wrote on Aug 09, 09:20 PM

yes, "haaaa" is "7". "7" is not the same thing as "aa" or "3". "7" is more like hahnoun. Make sense?

masriyaATL

masriyaATL wrote on Aug 10, 12:06 PM

She wants to learn arabic...what's wrong with that, Starshowz?

SoulfulEyz

SoulfulEyz wrote on Aug 10, 09:21 PM

Yes habibti it makes sense. Shookran. Ana bit3alam basor3a (pronounced bitaaalam basoraaa?) (I am a quick learner). Salam! (cheers). Is that  right in this context? Undecided

masriyaATL

masriyaATL wrote on Aug 10, 10:57 PM

Only thing I get from you, Starzshowz, is that you obviously think very little of yourself and you feel the need to put others down to make your sorry self feel better. You have a very ugly way of dealing with people. I am a lady, and if you cannot respect me as such, do not address me in any manner. I was never disrespectful to you, and I'm not going to tolerate your disrespecting me.

I have a right to respond to whatever I choose, and you're not going to stop me. If you don't like it, tough...deal with it. DO YOU GET IT?

masriyaATL

masriyaATL wrote on Aug 16, 09:26 PM

Now, for those here actually wanting to learn arabic, the lesson continues....

If you want to say hi, you can say "Ahlan" (Hi) and then you can say, "Ezayik" (How are you?) Then she answers, "Ana kwayissa" and he answers, "Ana kwayis". Usually, they will ask you in return how you are doing as well. If not, you can say, "El Hamdulillah" (thank God). Then to offer a drink you can say, "Ah giblik (f) / giblek (m) / giblokom (mixed company)  7a3ga tishrubeeha (f) / tishrubha (m) /t ishrubooha (mixed company)?" And then the response would be, "Aywa (yes), manfudlik (please), moomken a7'od coca cola diet?"

You got it? I know this one's kinda complicated cause there's gender, etc. involved. This is where arabic becomes a complicated language....

SoulfulEyz

SoulfulEyz wrote on Aug 16, 09:42 PM

Hmmm...i better make sure i keep taking my B vitamins! Tongue out...Ahlan Masriyaatl Ezayik? Ah giblik  7a3ga  (haaaga) tishrubeeha?  Is that right if I'm  asking you ( being female) and you are not amongst company? Undecided

Just so you know...my arabic is a little on the crazy-side. My mother is Masraya and my baba Saudi. They both speak Arabic, but totally different dialect.
