I'm Going to London!

For those of you who live or have been there hook me up with info. Where's the best places to eat, people watch, and shop off the beaten path and not in a tourist trap. How can I move around your city wthout looking like a stupid American? Where are the places I should not go and the places I must see? I will be staying in London for 4 nights and in Paris for 3. I'll post pix as soon as I get back to the States.
Thanks!!

Not sure about London. Been there twice and don't really have any memories except for the accent of people!

But don't worry about Paris, you'll feel you're home there. I recommend watching this movie "Paris Je T'aime" before you go. It's on theatres now in The States.
avoid eye contact lol

In London - Ioved the clubs and restaurants. The shopping is great! TopShop is a must!  They have good flea markets too - I think the area is Portabello for the good one. Of course, you have to at least walk through Harrods:)
Paris - Je T'aime!  Where are you staying? I Loved The Costes Hotel.  Been years now so forgot what places to eat and stuff but there is one place that was a bath house but now a club and restaurant - not sure if its still cool though.

I don’t know yet where I am staying, I want to be kinda offset from the middle of everything. Of course I want to see Beg Ben and all the usual suspects that are on a tourist lists and guide books. But I also want to find shops and cafes that are off the beaten path, hidden little gems that are missed by everyone running to see the Buckingham Palace. ( I want to see it too.) But I want my time there to be lazy and unscripted I want to find the St. Paul Cathedral by accident. I want to buy a bus pass.

Can you give me anymore information about Topshop, sounds just like the place for me to be.

Hossein

No eye contact, really? Oh boy.

Thanks guys for the film recommendation.

Nubian...totally take Futurekids up on his offer. He lives there, and I'm certain he could tell you all you need to know. I have been once, and my favorite place to eat was Beirut Express on Edgware Road. It's in Zone 1, and it's great if you love Middle Eastern food! Prices are totally reasonable, and the food is great. In general, I'm not big on English food myself, but I have to say the breakfasts there are great!

Paris...one of my favorite cities in the world. You're going to have to much fun!

Good luck, and take TONS of pics!!!!

Masriyaatl, OMG you are so right about Futurekid! He is awesome, he sent me tons of stuff to my e-mail I am so hyped to go. The pix you poted of your London trip, it looks like you were having so much fun! I can't wait to get there. I'm goin in Aug for my birthday. Are these zones you guys are talking about would they be called cities in the west?

I had a great time when I was there. There was so  much to see, and I did see quite a bit of it! London is split up into Zones. Zones 1-6, if I remember correctly.  You really want to stay and sight-see in Zones 1 and 2. Outside of that, from what I've been told by Londoners, is not really of interest or could be sketchy. You can visit this website and become a member. I have no doubt Futurekids gave you the hook-up, and this website is an excellent tool as well. You can see a map of the Tube (Underground) and much more so you can begin familiarizing yourself with the area. The tube is quite easy to navigate and is a great way to go from place to place.

Also, when I was there, I stayed in Hyde Park...I found the hotel on hotels.com. You'd be surprised the GREAT deals you can find there. I'd check it out and make sure your hotel is close to an Underground station so that you can get around easily by foot. The hotel I stayed in was the Hyde Park Paddington Hotel just near the Paddington Underground station. It was a great location, safe, and convenient to everything. The hotel was really nice (super small rooms, but hey...it's London), and the breakfast was excellent! I'd definitely stay there again...

Anyway...I'm sure you have the hook-up, but I thought I'd tell you more just in case. Wink

I hope you have a great time; you can check out Speakers' corner in Hyde Park in Central London (Zone One) on Sunday afternoons where you can hear speakers debate number of issues, a bit like here on Nuzizo but live.

The place is historical, check out the Tower of London by the River Thames! Yeah don't forget a brolly and a coat just in case.
