This is how it happened ...
After the world wars the west becomes relatively peaceful [don't say Vietnam because im not just talking bout the US] and they start exploiting the information age creating new culture mving the human race foreward!(IRAN-1950 WEST-1950)
You may now ask yourself what this may have to do with iran. well ... the shah sort of tried to modernise or "westernise" iran in his time too; but failed. and this isn't where it ends.(IRAN-1980 WEST 1980)
Khomeini came and said Islam is the only way and decided to change the iranian constitution to sharia law and go back to the good ol' times of prophet mohammad!
So to keep you on track in case you lost me : "The West" is in the year 2000 but Iran is gone back to 700AC. :D
The Japs eat their sushi[keeping their culture], don't have an army and make crazy technology and a strong economy, the US becomes the world super-power and "Where people go to make their dreams come true", Queen Elizabeth rules half of the world and Iran becomes this confused nation where people feel guilty [they don't really, they're just confused] about using computers or anything "western" and goto mosques once a year in Aashura, bowl their eyes out for Hossein; son of Ali who lived 1400 years ago and all the stories told about him may or may not have been true!
The legislation forbids the younger generation from doing what they're meant to do which of course creates chaos!
The new generation are forced to abide by the laws of Islam with a lot of well-known flaws and contradictions, have no jobs, no future.
The "west" could not realy be said to have influenced our culture, and we should learn to stop pointing fingers and recognise our failure to modernise at the same pace as most of the world and if we feel like the burden is on the shoulders of our leaders we should again blame ourselves for letting these leaders rule our country!
[p.s. most of these lessons should have been learnt after the 1979 Hostage Crisis's impact on Iran]
