I think that having private Universities in Greece is not bad but if this happen many problems will come out. For example someone (especially reach poeple) could pay a lot of money and take a diploma without having any real qualifications. This would be very unfair to those who study a lot and try hard to take their diploma in a public university. So I think it is better to not to have private universities in Greece.

I am in favour of anything private and where competition exists ...

I do not like state monopolies ...

Students should be free to chose where to study ...

I have finished 2 state universities in Greece and 1 private ... Both have advanatges and disadvantages ...

But it is better to allow the market which solution is better and brings better professionals in the business world ...

We will also save a lot of money from sending all our youth exiled every year in universities in foreign countries because Greek universities have no room for them ...

Anyway private universities have been already in operation in Greece and the only difference will be after the legalization of their presence is that then they will come here also the most prestigious ones ...

It is not smart to deny the reality and to prefer to have thousands of Greek young people becoming expatriates every year in UK, Italy, USA etc., forced to be far from home, spending huge foreign currency abroad and at the end losing them also permanently after their studies as the other country keeps them usually for ever offering them a more liberal and not arteriosclerotic environment ...

Why have answers including only denial been posted? Why there are not any arguments against priviatization?

Do you know many public universities in the States Andreea? and if any, which are doing better? the public or the private ones? which ones offer better training? which offer better networking? which offer better chaches for a good job after?

As the topic also refers about public or private universities in Greece, how can youhave an opinion if you do not know the situation of public universities in Greece? How many hours real teaching takes place? If knowledge transfer is their reason of being or just a place to egg the new political parties leaders or pawns or to make rich some not so loyal and honest academics?

Opening the market in competition and letting the market then to decide who is more suitable to be hired is the only thing that can improve the situation ...

A few tenths of years ago some of the Greek universities (i.e Athens Polytechnical School) were among the top in Europe ... You need binoculars now to find a Greek university among top or even middle Europeans ones ...

    Let's be serious ...

Privatisation or not, in UK the average student from mid to low income will end up in debt with degree in hand. Elites from top universities take top jobs, the below just struggle to find a job which will pay off debt and sustain family living, if one can afford to marry by that age. You could easily advance to a better stage without a degree, for example with in-job training, appraisal within the company, and self-education in a hobby or sport of your choice. It might be cheaper than 3 years of university maintenance.

With privatisation, you still need a Board of Governance to monitor performance in the private sector where capital income is as important as productivity.
