Ramadan
"O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard against evil....The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur'an was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the Criterion...."
Holy Quran, Chapter 2, Verses 183 & 185
Each year as Ramadan comes around it is anticipated with joy, as I look forward to a period of thirty days where the obligation of fasting as instructed by Allah is imposed on self.
For me it is a period of imposing discipline, for the removal of bad habits that have crept into a regimented self-imposed way of life during the year. It is an opportunity to read the Holy Qur'an from front to cover, one section at a time, each morning after waking up and doing fajr prayer, then learning wisdom and knowledge from the Creator.
It is a time where I am enjoying the time from the rising of the sun to its setting, abstaining from food and drink and being imbibed html_removed with a spirit that allows me to focus more intensely, concentrate deeper and reflect more on Allah's glorious Creation and consider that the intensity of the duration of the fast is akin to the reality of the time in which we are living.
The month of Ramadan from my understanding is the time period when the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH - Peace by upon him) as a Healing for the people living on the Arabian penninsula to take them out of darkness into the glorious light of knowledge, wisdom and understanding.
In essence it is a Book which provides healing and purification for men and women of understanding willing to submit their inferior knowledge to that of the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth.
Ramadan is meant for the healing and purification of a people and nation thereby benefitting the country as a whole. However, as food and water nourish and sustain the body, the intensity of the duration for abstinence is a sign of the life and blood of this nation which sustains it, and how progressively the absence of life sustaining principles, is evident in the way this nation is heading into the abyss of death and destruction as she continues and prepares for war in the East and in the Caucasus Region.
Ramadan is a blessed and holy period, a time for reflection and making positive changes. But for the believer and non-believer can we see this time period as a period to enjoy, fighting and overcoming the desires of the flesh and heart, or will we see it as a burden.
Surely man is made to face difficulty...but he climbs not the uphill road.
Peace.
