Kwisatz Haderach

Posted by princesstamtam on Saturday, March 29, 04:57 PM

"Shortening of the Way." This is the label applied by the Bene Gesserit to the unknown for which they sought a genetic solution: a male Bene Gesserit whose organic mental powers would bridge space and time."

The Bene Gesserit hoped to create a male who could survive the ritual spice agony that changes a female acolyte into a Reverend Mother a male thus capable of absolute powers of prescience, able to predict all possible futures and to cause select threads of time to be realized through manipulation. A female Bene Gesserit was limited:

She ... was confronted immediately with a cellular core, a pit of blackness from which she recoiled. That is the place where we cannot look, she thought. There is the place the Reverend Mothers are so reluctant to mention — the place where only a Kwisatz Haderach may look.

I absolutely love Dune and all of the mental-spiritual ideas encoded into the story.

I couldn't agree with you more.  What do you think about the "way" the Kwisatz Haderach was conceived? What I mean precisely;  the ramifications of the Kwisatz Haderach being born an entire generation earlier than what the Bene Gesserit expected...

You do rememeber their breeding program and their plan to marry any daughter of Jessica's to Feyd?

Gosh I read the whole 7 or 8 books of the "trilogy" so many years ago. I was sucked into it.. But the movie.. uggh.. sucked.
I can't remember all the nooks and crannies that story had.. but it was absolute "wow".

Oooooh! Venky is a Dunie too.  I don't care how bad the movie was, they say there is a cult following for it and I'm a card carrying member.

The nooks and crannies are the best parts of any well written series.  Especially when its made into a movie because you feel that there are parts you are privvy too that others are not.

For example  I'm sure you remember that Lady Jessica is actually the daughter of Reverend Mother Mohiam and the fearful Baron Vladimir Harkonnen... ( of course he doesn't know he is Jessica's father )... and that the disease that the Baron has was actually given to him by Mother Mohiam...

Things like that you can't forget and when you watch the movie its like filling in the blanks..

They did a great job of the movie in that 2 or 3 4hour HBO special. They had William Hurt as Duke Leto Atriedes, but that guy that played Paul was pretty good.

Oh gosh, I can't remember the details.. I remember some of the last books where whatsisname is being replicated again and again is somehow able to see future and navigate and all that. Had too look it up.. Duncan Idaho (always reminded me of B52 :P your living in your own duncan idaho )

You're going to make me read it all over again now.. damn.

Hahaha! Yes read it again. Duncan was made into a ghola and I can't like anyone as Paul but Kyle.  Sorry!

Duncan Idaho was what they actually called the ULTIMATE  Kwisatz Haderach, but that didn't show up until sandworms of dune.  I was a little disapointed because I love house Atreides and wanted one of them to be the Ultimate, but I guess since Duncan married Alia then him becoming the K.H is ok.

Group description

This wonderful celestial existence created by Frank Herbert truly needs no group to celebrate its existence, but where else would I have a chance to post pictures of Kyle MacLachlan and that head full of gorgeous hair?
