Akira

Posted by DRomeo on Thursday, October 05, 12:03 AM

I think Akira is one of the greatest animated movies of all time.

I am curious what others think about the story and the concepts expressed in the film.

yes yes! Akira was the first anime i ever saw. I was dumbfounded. I think the story and animation are great. To this day, i dont think i understand everything about this movie. I've seen it at least 5 times.

Every time I watch Akira, the story shifts and grows.  There is a lot of metaphysical depth as well.

i mustve seen akira at least 50times.  the first time i seen it, it was like an acid trip.  the second time it was like a shrooms trip.  i consider it one of the greatest animations ever produced.

always preferred the original english subbed version over the english dubbed version.

what i liked best about akira was what i took as an interesting take on the concepts of evolution.  i considered the akira principle to mean that expansive part of life(and mind) that all things share as a sensory experience.  i found as one of the important  scenes toward the end when tetsuo loses control of his power and kaori becomes trapped inside of him.  as he continues to grow, she gets squished between his cells.  he exclaims, "kaneda, help me.  kaori's pain is inside of me."

tetsuo experienced life at that moment, but it was so much more life than he ever thought he could live.  his physical grew but his consciousness, but it being not made of the physical was unable to cope.  he was worse off than a child trapped in an elderly body not understanding the pain of old age.  at the end when he goes supernova, kaneda grabs whats left of him, in the visage of a tiny spark and felt tetsuo inside of him.

tetsuo had painfully joined the singularity.  its a direction that we all are going toward if not as drastically.  i think robert anton wilson called it the chapel perilous.  when you enter it, you always come out enlightened.  buts its just a matter of whether you come out on your feet, on your knees, or in a body bag.
