the first sin

Posted by supes on Thursday, February 08, 06:56 PM

this is something i posted in a forum today called does god exist?  the present topic there is sin and as i started composing my post, i thought about it and this is what came out.  oh yeah, i had the eye when i wrote this.

the first real sin was probably the idea of sin itself. i think humans messed up when we learned right from wrong. not to say that i disagree that some things are right and some are just plain wrong. but there mustve been such an attachment to these ideas that someone came up with the idea of sin, and then came the judgement and the punishment and suffering. i feel relgious morality has kept humans moving at a snail's pace when it comes to our development, whether socially, technologically or spiritually. a lot of the things we could do as a species someone's preventing by calling it a sin.

"sin" keeps the human mind trapped in a strange perception. having to recall something that makes you feel wrong or bad. being reminded constantly that you have the potential to do the worst. it just doesnt make sense to me when i think of like this. you will never be able to find happiness with the idea of sin floating around in your head.

Have you ever really looked into the way the thought of Sin is picked apart?  For instance the Buddhist religion does not recognize Sin but instead they deal believe in Karma, cause and effect.   Judaism teaches that sin is an act, and not a state of being. In Genesis 8:21 it states “man was created with an inclination to do evil,  4:7 “the ability to master this inclination” Psalms 37:27 says we have the ability to choose good over evil.  Roman catholics they ripped and catergorized  it  with personal sin and original sin. Personalsins are supposedly considered venial mortal sin’s are sins of the grave and cuts you off from the grace of god. Hmmmmm…this shit is boring. Supes you wrote and I quote “i feel relgious morality has kept humans moving at a snail's pace when it comes to our development, whether socially, technologically or spiritually. a lot of the things we could do as a species someone's preventing by calling it a sin.” What would you do if the human existence was unfettered by sin?

i dont understand.  what would i do..?  probably the same as i have.  there isnt much more for me to do.  my life wouldnt change because i already dont subscribe to the concept of sin.  the only  problem i can think of would be if others felt that the removal of the idea of sin(sin itself) gave them reason to act as if cause and effect didnt exist.

DOES RELIGION NEED THE HUMAN RACE? OR DOES SHE NEED A NON LOGIC RACE?

princess - that would have to be based on their own choices.  im really not understanding the question.  i consider myself without sin because i stopped subscribing to the beliefs and doctrines of sin.  i dont see sin itself as anything tangible.  it just an idea.  some of the changes that i experienced was that  i judge myself and others a lot less, others' judgements mean little, and i can forgive others and myself more easily.  would you consider these as possibilities?

siopilos - i coulda swear that it said does she need a non alcoholic drink?  perception is a fickle mistress.

Does the human race need religion?
That depends on what your understanding of religion is.  if you take what the self proclaimed leaders of religion try to sell us as the true religion, then we don't need this religion.  You have to understand religion as something that is born , gradually grows and developes, fullfills its purpose and then declines and makes the way free for the next religion.  Understanding religion according to this concept will help us also to understand whether the human race needs religion or not.  We will also have the answer to the question , If there is one God why do we have many religions?  Some of them are like the dress we wore last season. At the time it was the right dress and it helped to keep us warm. It is still hanging there in the wardrobe but it dosn't fit us ( the human race) anymore.  'We need a new dress that will fit us now ( satisfiy the needs of  the society today).
The concept of sin is that what our educatedconscience dictates us to do or not to do.

Does The Human Race Need Religion?

Show/hide details

Group description

Religion has played an intergral role in world culture for ages. However in present times it seems to serve more as a dividing force than a unifying one and has yet to make any recent worthwhile contributions. In observing history we can see many of human's greatest atrocities were fueled by religious differences. Prophecies of doom and threats of judgement have yet to end the problems of existence. So putting the question of god aside, does the human race still have a need for organized religion?
