the end of days or just a reason to stop trying?

Posted by supes on Monday, February 05, 07:18 PM

is judgement day just a lame excuse to stop working toward a sustainable future?

i mean, if there's gonna be a second-coming, then why worry about things like global warming, over-population, food & resource shortages, cures for terminal diseases, energy conservation, environmental protection, future war, etc...

the ends been near for over a thousand years.  so why care now when the earth needs our attention more than ever?

The human race needs religion like fish need bicycle...

In my opinion, which is based on and supported by many scientific facts and discoveries, god does not exist.

Humans do not need to live their lives praying to some imaginary sky god, and they certainly do not need to believe in the end of times BS.  god and religion is a direct cause of ignorance, intolerance, and violence.

i can agree that the gods of religion dont exist, but that doesnt make me an atheist.  im a pantheist which considers everything to be god.  not a anthropomorphic being that oversees the workings of the universe, but the universe itself.  and more.  to the best of my ability i can define god as the unity of all things known and unknown.  this definition requires no faith, belief, religious practice or observance.  it doesnt even require understanding, because its only my understanding.

i fully agree though.  fish dont need bicycles.

It is a curious phenomenon to me this end times theology. It does appear to be almost cheerleading on the end of the world and apathy to the difficulties faced by humans right now.

Does The Human Race Need Religion?

Show/hide details

Group description

Religion has played an intergral role in world culture for ages. However in present times it seems to serve more as a dividing force than a unifying one and has yet to make any recent worthwhile contributions. In observing history we can see many of human's greatest atrocities were fueled by religious differences. Prophecies of doom and threats of judgement have yet to end the problems of existence. So putting the question of god aside, does the human race still have a need for organized religion?
