Saddam Hussein's change of heart? ( gulp)

Posted by princesstamtam on Thursday, December 28, 12:21 AM

well they say even the toughest of men can repent and see the err of their ways

"I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking," said the letter, which was written in Arabic and translated by the AP. "I also call on you not to hate the people of the other countries that attacked us," it added, referring to the invasion that toppled his regime nearly four years ago. Against the backdrop of sectarian killings that have dragged Sunni Arabs and Shiite Muslims into civil warfare over the past year, Saddam urged his countrymen to "remember that God has enabled you to become an example of love, forgiveness and brotherly coexistence."

Has it been confirmed that he actually wrote the letter himself?

I don't think that matters anymore he's dead....it's sad how you allow someone to be merciless and completely free with their own brand of justice and punishment for so long; then you kill him before the sun rises. Like pressing your finger to the flame of a candle...

I wonder if it truly matters whether he wrote it himself. Is the symbol any less powerful? So long as it is indeterminate whether it was written by him or another, it can shine as a beacon of hope.

Also, if it is proven he did write it, folk will still debate as to whether he really meant it or whether he simply wanted a nice image close to the end. People will question his motives in writing it.

Once again, regardless of the authenticity, it is a powerful symbol.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to write in this pace ... what's this for? Alo? Aloooo? Anyway...just checked out the map with all the "New Free Democratic" countries added ... and realized ... one day we're going to look back in history and say ... "damn that man was stupid ... and those who voted ... twice."
