Saddam is dead

It's warm here. In fact it's blistering and for wonders I want to walk around with barely anything on but I'm cold and a little afraid for I just beheld the American news headlines “Saddam Dead".  Why should the fact that one of the most ruthless dictators to ever walk the earth be dead make feel sad or afraid?  I don't know I mean he's dead now, no?  I guess because I know there are other's out there more than willing to take up the torch and finish what he started.  He was the Stalin, Hitler, and Hoxa of our time. Or was it months of watching this powerful, handsome (if you like the cold black eyes, heavy mustache and I've got nutty son's type) turn into someone almost fatherly looking.

Saddam Hussein's change of heart? ( gulp)

well they say even the toughest of men can repent and see the err of their ways

"I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking," said the letter, which was written in Arabic and translated by the AP. "I also call on you not to hate the people of the other countries that attacked us," it added, referring to the invasion that toppled his regime nearly four years ago. Against the backdrop of sectarian killings that have dragged Sunni Arabs and Shiite Muslims into civil warfare over the past year, Saddam urged his countrymen to "remember that God has enabled you to become an example of love, forgiveness and brotherly coexistence."

More Brits drinking themselves to deathDeath rates from alcohol consumption skyrockets

LONDON - The number of British middle-aged men drinking themselves to death has more than doubled since 1991, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

Men aged between 35 and 54 have suffered the biggest rise in alcohol-related deaths, the Office for National Statistics said.

Deaths among women in the same age group also nearly doubled, fuelling concerns over binge-drinking and rising alcohol consumption in Britain.

Blood and Money- Ain't this a bitch?

Dec. 25, 2006 - Jan. 1, 2007 issue - It may sound unreal, given the daily images of carnage and chaos. But for a certain plucky breed of businessmen, there's good money to be made in Iraq. Consider Iraqna, the leading mobile-phone company. For sure, its quarterly reports seldom make for dull reading. Despite employees kidnapped, cell-phone towers bombed, storefronts shot up and a huge security budget—up to four guards for each employee—the company posted revenues of $333 million in 2005. This year, it's on track to take in $520 million. The U.S. State Department reports that there are now 7.1 million mobile-phone subscribers in Iraq, up from just 1.4 million two years ago. Says Wael Ziada, an analyst in Cairo who tracks Iraqna: "There will always be pockets of money and wealth, no matter how bad the situation gets."

Kilt shortage....

LONDON - Great Scot! A shortage of ceremonial kilts could leave thousands of soldiers without a stitch of plaid to wear as they parade to the skirl of the bagpipes. Military officials said Monday that more than 5,000 Scottish soldiers are having to share their kilts because defense chiefs have not finalized a contract to buy enough of the garments to go around. The men, who face regular tours of duty in south Iraq and Afghanistan, have just 320 kilts, or one for every 15 soldiers.Combat troops wore the traditional Highland garb in battle as late as World War I, but now the plaid kilts are used in ceremonial uniform.
