He was the supposed father of S & M, the term Sadism is derived from his name. Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade was born June 2, 1740 and died in an insane asylum on December 2, 1814. He was a French writer of violently display and widely popular pornography. He was also of noble birth and aristocrat. Donatien's philosophy was of extreme "freedom", unrestrained by morality, religion or the law. He actively and loudly pursued his personal pleasure with the highest voracity. He was wicked and although he was never convicted of any crime, Donatien was incarcerated in various prisons and in an insane asylum for 29 years of his life; much of his writing was done during this time. The movie Quills was based on his writing and his life. I've included a clip with the esteemed Geoffrey Rush portraying the deviant monarch.
