HAS ANYONE HEARD THIS GUY YET...

Or am I alone in my thoughts that he is the perfect blend of Talib and Jay-Z. If you dont know who Talib is then you need to do some research. Jay-Z even talked about him in moment of clarity when he said "Truth be told if LYRICS sold I'd be Talib Kweli...".
At any rate the musical revolution has been tainted with so much JUNK FOOD, laffy taffy for example, people are really buying in to this beat first lyrics second mentality. It's really getting irritating.
And I'm not going to sit here and express who I think is the best rapper out, alive, or dead, cuz those debates are empty. But , I know someone out there  must be actually listening to the good music.
I know it's hard to go through English 305 three days out of the week and then sit down and listen to music for its content, but it seems the people with the meat and potatoes in their lyrics are on the backburner and it's time to lend your ears my countymen. Here is a stick to your ribs artist!

Lupe is giving you his A- Game. Fiasco is for the problems that he has seen or had to face and the Lupe is a play on Loop. A change or revolution. Holla back.

thank you for listening
Ty

I agree Ty.

Lupe has skills.  Reminds me when hip hop was about more than just hooks and whack beats.

Substance...

c'est la vie. however, as far as the "junk food" that has so invasively gained a foothold within hip-hop, i must say that i hate it as well. but i was at a Jean Grae show recently and was struck by an interesting perspective. pieces such as "chicken noodle soup," "laffy taffy," and others just may be an indication of a new strata within hip hop. certainly all genres of music have elements within them that are more artistically meritorious than others. further, who you are in your life affects how and to what degree you will relate to the music. surely, if you're in grade school, you will likely find "chicken noodle soup" more appealing than Lupe's "Daydreamin." Likewise, an older, more experienced person may find Miles Davis more appealing than Kenny G. so, while this new barrage of lackluster songs tends to deeply offend the "true" hip-hop fan, it simply indicates that hip-hop is continually evolving to become more inclusive of various kinds of stories. in this regard, i would say that i may just be able to view the existence of these beats made on a casio-keyboard as somewhat useful because everyone needs music to which they can relate. it's somewhat pompous to make someone believe that Jay-Z is the greatest rapper alive, when in their heart Bubba Sparks is their hero. who knows why an individual relates to one artist more than another. certainly, i believe that education plays a part in an individual's ability to "appreciate" some forms of art over others, but in the end we are human. junk food is sometimes comfort food; sometimes you need a bag of doritos instead of a bowl of spinach.

Just playing devil's advocate ; )

Well said Ty.  Music is expression--it is never "wrong."

It either resontates with you or it doesn't.

PEACE,

D
